Game 1

Sophomore Duncan McAlpine picked up his first win of the season in game one after pitching three and a third innings, giving up three hits, no earned runs, and striking out three.

After a scoreless first, Indiana State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Patriots responded with their first run in the bottom of the inning. Junior Ryan Behmanesh singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

The Sycamores scored seven runs in the fourth, but the Patriot bats caught fire as they scored five runs in the third and six in the fourth, to take a 12-9 lead. All together, DBU compiled nine hits and 11 runs over the two innings.

Sophomore Austin Elkins added to the lead in the sixth, as he stepped up with bases loaded and delivered his second grand slam of the series. Behmanesh picked up single to lead off, and later advanced to second after Senior Josh Wilson drew a walk. Junior Landon Anderson reached on an error to load the bases, and Elkins brought everybody home with his shot over the left field wall, giving DBU a 16-10 lead.

The Patriots tacked on four more in the seventh to take a commanding, 20-10 advantage. Senior Jason Krizan drew a walk to start the inning and scored three batters later when Junior Kenny Hatcher pushed him across the plate with his sacrifice fly to right field. Freshman KJ Alexander drove home two RBI with his double to left later in the inning, scoring Behmanesh who reached on a single and Wilson who drew a walk. Anderson capped off the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle, to score Alexander.

After a two-run eighth for the Sycamores, Junior Jordan Staples gave up only one hit in the ninth, sealing the 20-12 win for the Patriots.

Game 2

In game two, it was Senior Jared Stafford who picked up the win for DBU, throwing six innings, allowing six hits and one run, and striking out four.

The Patriots took an early lead in the bottom of the first, after Senior Tyler Robbins reached on a double to left and later scored on a single by Junior Joel Hutter. Behmanesh delivered a sacrifice fly deep to right, scoring Krizan who had reached on walk. Hatcher then singled up the middle later in the inning to score Hutter, making it a 3-0 lead for the Patriots.

DBU tacked on another run in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a Robbins' double that pushed Elkins across the plate.

With the bases empty in the fourth, Elkins blasted a solo shot to right, giving DBU a 5-0 lead. Elkins has started the 2011 season in tremendous fashion, tallying three homeruns and nine RBI over the three-game series.

Hutter added the final touch for the Patriots in the bottom of the seventh, when he laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Elkins. With a five-run lead, Senior Chris Haney came on in the ninth to seal the game as he struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The Patriots will travel to Stillwater this Tuesday to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The first pitch at Reynolds Stadium is slated for 4:00 p.m.
