The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team dropped the second game of the series against Houston Baptist on Friday afternoon, falling to the Huskies, 15-13. DBU drops to 16-10 overall on the season.
Sophomore
Duncan McAlpine was dealt the loss for the Patriots as came on in the seventh and pitched two thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on five hits.
The Patriots scored first on the afternoon, putting three runs on the board in the opening inning. After Senior
Jason Krizan reached on a Husky fielding error and stole second, Junior
Ryan Behmanesh singled to push the first run across the plate with his seventh RBI of the series, scoring Krizan and giving DBU a 1-0 lead. With Behmanesh on base, Junior
Joel Hutter stepped up and delivered his second homerun of the season with a shot to left field, making it a 3-0 lead for DBU.
Houston Baptist responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first to make it a 3-2 game, and after three scoreless innings by DBU, took a 7-3 lead after posting five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Patriots regained control of the game in the fifth with a barrage of hits that resulted in seven runs. With the bases loaded, Krizan doubled to center field, scoring Junior
Landon Anderson and Sophomore
Austin Elkins to make it a 7-5 game. Behmanesh picked up another RBI with his next at bat, driving in Senior
Tyler Robbins with a sacrifice fly to pull the Patriots to within one, 7-6.
After Hutter's RBI single to left field knotted the game at seven runs apiece, Junior
Kenny Hatcher doubled to left center to give the lead back to the Patriots, 8-7. A pitching change by the Huskies didn't seem to help, as Senior
Chris Haney picked up a RBI single the next at bat, scoring Hatcher and making it a 9-7 game. With his second at bat of the inning, Elkins capped picked up a triple to score Haney, and give DBU a 10-7 advantage.
The Patriots took an 11-7 lead after tacking on another run in the seventh, thanks to a RBI double from Hatcher that scored Behmanesh. Behmanesh led off the inning with his third double of the series.
Not to be outdone, Houston Baptist rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring eight runs on seven hits, to take a 15-11 lead.
DBU was only able to push two across in the eighth thanks to a two-RBI single from Hutter, leaving the score at 15-13.
The Patriots will close out the series against Houston Baptist on Saturday with the first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. at Husky Field.
