The Dallas Baptist Patriot Women's Soccer Team scored a single goal in each half en route to a 2-0 blanking of visiting St. Mary's University, Saturday at Patriot Field. The No.9 Patriots close the 2012 regular season on a 12-game win streak, now 16-2-0 overall, 9-1-0 in conference play.
The game started as a defensive struggle, as neither team scored for the majority of the first half.
Lindsey Eccles broke the silence in the 43
rd minute, scoring her 10
th goal of the season, knocking in a pass from
Dixie Kurrus.
The Patriots added an insurance goal 30 minutes into the second half, as
Baylie Hill drilled a shot from 30 yards out that sailed over the keeper's head, her first goal of the year.
Kerry Edwards (16-2-0) started in goal for the Dallas Baptist, turning away five shots on goal for her ninth shutout of the season. Overall, DBU outshot the Rattlers, 21-6, putting 13 shots on target, compared to five for the visiting club.
Paolo Ostos worked the majority of the game for St. Mary's (9-9-0, 3-7-0), registering eight saves in the loss, allowing both goals. Alyssa Taramona came on to record three saves in just over 12 minutes of work.
Saturday was also Senior Day, as Hill was joined by fellow seniors,
Andrea Hutchins and
Lindsay Cox in a short pregame ceremony honoring the graduating Patriots. The trio of seniors will lead their club into Heartland Conference Tournament play, next week. Seedings for the tournament will be released, Sunday, at
