Lady Patriots Sweep Away Dustdevils

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team improved to 2-0 in Heartland Conference play, and moved their overall record above .500 for the first time in 2012 at 4-3, with a convincing 3-0 win over Texas A&M International in Laredo on Saturday afternoon. The match was dominated by the DBU defense as they held TAMI to a .157 hitting percentage, including .128 and .135 in the final two games. Cameron Hartson led the way with 16 digs while Erika Papadeas and Tadam Mergener each added eight.

Game One was the closest set of the day as DBU scored the final two points of the game to win 26-24. From there, the Lady Patriots put it on cruise control and won the final two games, and the match, 25-21 and 25-17. On offense, Mergener and Kristin Secord recorded double-digit kils with 12 and 10, respectively, and Tyler Bradsher and Kaycie Bird combined for 34 assists on the afternoon with Bradsher picking up the lion's share with 18. DBU's attacking percentage in the final set was an outstanding .323.

The Lady Patriots will finally play a home match next week after beginning the season with their first seven matches on the road. They will host conference opponent St. Edward's on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:00 pm. They will also play at home Saturday, September 14, as they welcome Arkansas Tech to the Burg Center for non-conference action.
