Women's Soccer Kicks off Long Home Stretch with Southwestern Oklahoma State

DALLAS – The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team returns to the pitch for a non-conference match with Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday at 4 pm. The match-up marks the beginning of a six-game home stretch, the longest of the year for DBU (4-4-1).

PREVIOUS OUTING – Coming off a game where the offense set several season-highs, things were opposite against a difficult St. Edward's defense. The Patriots allowed one goal early in the first half and it proved to be the difference in a 1-0 defeat.

Senior Danielle Presley and junior Megan McDermand tallied two shots on goal, which contributed to the team's six shot attempts. Sophomore Lindsey Eccles fired half of those counting for a game-high with three.

ASHLEY COX STEADILY CONTRIBUTING – Second year starting forward Ashley Cox has been quietly contributing solid play for the Patriots so far this season. She's second in the team with three goals and third with eight points. DBU is 3-0 in games Cox finds the back of the net.

SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE – The Lady Bulldogs carry a 5-2-2 record into Friday's contest with Dallas Baptist. SWOSU played to a 1-1 stalemate in its previous game verses Ouachita Baptist.

Alexis Russell knotted the game in the 76th minute with a goal on the left side. Courtney Flores delivered a full 110 minutes in the goal, nabbing six saves against 15 attempts. Her only blemish came on a goal by Haley Hatcher in the 40th minute.

Miranda Balezentis holds a team-high four goals, with Russell following with three. SWOSU has posted three shutouts and is 3-2-1 in non-conference play.

WORTH NOTING – Here are some other quick notes for Patriot's Women Soccer.
  • The remainder of October features all home Dallas Baptist matches in the friendly confines.
  •  Monday's loss at St. Edward's snaps a 10-game winning streak in Heartland Conference action dating back to last season. That defeat was also against the Hilltoppers, with DBU falling 5-1.
  • Following Friday's match, the Patriots finish the regular season against Heartland Conference teams.
  • Junior goalkeeper Kerry Edwards is 21 saves shy of 200 in her career.
