DALLAS – The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team ended its three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over St. Mary's University on Saturday. Behind a career-high five points from senior
Rodrigo Barrientos, the Patriots (4-7, 2-2) got all they needed from the midfielder, who had a hand in all three goals. St. Mary's (2-9, 2-3) did outshoot DBU 32-15 and 11-8 on shots on goal, but a resilient defense held the Rattlers to one score. Â

Barrientos notched his second goal of the season at the 15:30 mark on an unassisted score in the upper right corner of the net to give DBU a 1-0 edge. The Carrollton, Texas, native added to his season best performance with an assist to freshman
Gerson Mendoza. The rookie's first collegiate goal extended the Patriots lead 2-0, and the score would remain that way the final six minutes into halftime.

The Patriots extended the lead in the 61
st minute off another Barrientos goal, tying him second on the team with three goals this season. His header came off a rebound from a missed shot by junior
David Balyeat, who tallied the assist.

Alexis Santamaria scored at the 85:39 mark to break the shutout, and Jake Wolf added the assist. However, despite a high offensive output from St. Mary's, the Patriots held on for a big win. Â

"Today's game was a true test for the guys," Head Coach
Chris Crawford announced following the game. "They played hard and dug in defensively."

The second year coach stated, "We were able to get some great ball movement and combinations that resulted in goals for us."

Freshman goalkeeper
Mason Stringer (2-1, 2-0) was effective notching a career-high 9 saves.

Patrick Kasperitis (2-9, 2-3) took the loss allowing three goals and grabbing five saves.

Barrientos tied a game-high with sophomore
Brian Robertson, both firing off six shot attempts. Barrientos also held a team-high four shots on goal and Robertson followed with two. Balyeat was the other Patriot to record a multi-shot contest with two attempts.

Wolf posted game-highs in shots and shot on goals for the Rattlers with nine and five, respectively.

Crawford added, "It is a great step forward for us, but we still got to keep working. It is always great to end the game with a win, and we will take this and move forward to the next match."
