Women's Soccer Blanks St. Mary's For Second Straight Shutout

Box Score

On a cold night at Patriot Soccer Field, the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team earned a 2-0 shutout over a St. Mary's squad ranked as the top offensive team in the Heartland Conference. With the win, the Patriots (6-5-1, 3-1) retain sole possession of third place.

DBU broke a scoreless tie at the 37 minute mark when senior, Danielle Presley netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season. The assist came from sophomore, Ashley Cox on a pass from the right corner.

The duo would hookup once more in the game, this time coming 11 minutes into the second half, as Presley returned the favor on an assist to Cox. For Cox, it marked her fourth goal of the year. The Patriots are now 4-0 in games in which Cox scores.

On the defensive side, DBU stymied the Rattlers offense to just five shots and two shots on goal. St. Mary's (6-6-1, 3-2) came into the contest tops in the Heartland with 29 points on the year. The shutout marks the fourth of the season for the Patriots and second in as many games. The last goal junior goalkeeper, Kerry Edwards allowed came in the 70 minute mark of a 1-0 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on October 10th. Since then, Edwards and the Patriots have not surrendered a goal in the last 199 minutes of action.

DBU now looks to a quick turnaround as they face Texas A&M International in a home contest on Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm. It will be game four of a six-game homestand before the Patriots hit the road for their final two games of the regular season.
