The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team moves on to the Championship Game of the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Regional Tournament following a 5-0 victory over McMurry University. DBU (13-6-1) is now winners of nine of its past 10 matches, and has clinched nine shutouts during that span. McMurry (8-8-1) finished with a .500 record for the first time in program history.
Freshman
Rebecca Kernen posted a career best three goals en route to her first hat trick with the Patriots. The Carrollton, Texas, native now holds five goals on her rookie campaign, and knocked four of them against the Warhawks.
Her first goal of the trio occurred for the Patriot's second of the first half in the 12
th minute. DBU rode the 2-0 advantage the remainder of the frame into halftime.
Senior
Danielle Presley scored as well to increase her scoring streak to four contests. Her goal put the Patriots on the board first at the 2:56 mark. The forward also added two assists in the victory. She now has 14 goals and 36 points, ranking as the team leader in both categories.
Kernen secured her first career multi-goal match with a goal in the 59
th minute. The first-year forward completed the hat trick about 10 minutes later on the final goal scored by DBU to push the lead 5-0.
Sophomore
Ashley Cox also found the back of the net at the 66:54 minute mark to move one shy of being the second Patriot to break double-digits in scoring. She has totaled nine goals to remain second on the team, and all have had some impact with DBU tallying a 9-0 record when the native of Midlothian, Texas scores. Sophomore
Lindsey Eccles delivered the assist for Cox.
The Patriots now have clinched 12 shutouts, with junior
Kerry Edwards (13-6-1) responsible for working all of them. This mark matches a season-high for the third-year starting goal keeper, as she now sits at 36 in her career.
"The weather was really nasty today with below freezing temperatures and sleeting," Head Coach
Michelle Lenard stated. "It was difficult circumstances and the girls responded well."
DBU outshot McMurry 22-4 in the match, placing 16 total shots on goal. Cox led the offense with seven attempts, six on goal. Junior
Lea Sedwick followed with five attempts, landing three for shot on goal. Kernen, the Patriots biggest difference maker, shot 100-percent with a four-for-four effort on shots on goal.
"Becca played especially well, she wasn't effected by the bad weather," Coach Lenard praised. "It was a great game for her."
Dallas Baptist is back on the pitch Saturday in the Championship Match of the NCCAA Regional hoping to punch an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament. The Patriots will oppose No.-2 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan with kickoff slated for 12 pm.
