Women's Soccer Wins NCCAA Regional Tournament

The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team clinched the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Regional Tournament following a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots (14-6-1) topped Oklahoma Wesleyan in the contest, and have now posted back-to-back shutouts. The title win gives DBU an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament.

Despite outshooting their opponents by 10 in the first half (11-1), the Patriots were unable to take advantage and the score remained scoreless at halftime.

Senior Danielle Presley finally broke the stalemate with her team-leading 15th goal in the 60th minute. Her golden goal now matches a team-best five-game scoring streak, as the Flower Mound, Texas, native has scored in all postseason contests. Sophomore Ashley Cox added an assist on the sequence.

Doubling the lead with an insurance goal was sophomore Dixie Kurrus for DBU. The netter occurred at the 73:19 mark and counts for the forward's first of the campaign.

"Overall we played really well, creating a lot of good scoring opportunities in the first half, but just weren't able to capitalize, Head Coach Michelle Lenard remarked. "In the second half, we came out and got two huge goals by Dani and and Dixie."

The Patriots totaled 16 shots compared to five by the Eagles (16-5-2). Six players posted multi-shot attempts for DBU, led by sophomore Lindsey Eccles with four. Presley followed closely behind with three shots.

A quartet of Patriot players including: junior Lea Sedwick, freshman Rebecca Kernen, Cox, and Kurrus with two. Nine of the Dallas Baptist's shots counted for on goal.

Elisa Brito fired a team-high three shots and Paula Vicenzo tallied the other two attempts for OKWU. All five shots landed on goal as the team held a 100-percent shot on goal in the loss.

Junior Kerry Edwards (14-6-1) broke a personal best 13 shutouts and pulled in five saves.

The goalkeeper's counterpart, Lisa Aman, allowed two goals and grabbed seven saves in the tough effort.

"I was pleased with the play today and believe we are hitting our stride at the right time," Coach Lenard concluded.
