Kurrus Scores Game-Winner for Women's Soccer

Box Score

Sophomore, Dixie Kurrus, delivered the game-winner for the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team in a 1-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic University on Tuesday afternoon. The forward has now scored in consecutive matches for the Patriots. It is her third career game-winning goal and first of the postseason.

Kurrus' timing was perfect, as DBU (15-6-1) won its third-straight match, and now has increased a total program best 14 shutouts. With the loss, Palm Beach Atlantic Univerisity (8-7-3) has their four game winning streak snapped.

Kurrus' goal came at the 89:24 minute mark on a pass from teammate, Lindsey Eccles. Junior, Megan McDermand, created the sequence by playing a long ball that was flicked by Eccles toward Kurrus.

"Dixie crashed the box and beat the keeper with a volley that went off the post and into the goal," Head Coach, Michelle Lenard, described for the clutch goal at the end.

The Patriot's offense took 16 shots on the afternoon, but only placed five shots on goal as a team.

"PBA played very defensive the entire game making it difficult to find any open shots," Coach Lenard remarked. "The girls did a great job sticking with it until the end, and found a way to win a game that was very tough."

Junior, Kerry Edwards, (15-6-1)  extended her season-high shutout count to 14. The native of McKinney, Texas, also eclipsed the 200-save mark by pulling in three in the victory.

Allison Fox (8-7-3) was almost just as perfect, grabbing four saves and allowing just the lone goal in the final minute.

Pacing the Patriots offensively was sophomore, Ashley Cox, with four attempts and two shots on goal. Eccles followed with three shots and the assist. Junior, Lea Sedwick, McDermand, and Kurrus completed the multi-shot group with two attempts each.

The Patriots return to the pitch tomorrow to face No.-1 Seed Lee University at 1 PM.
