Box Score
The Dallas Baptist Patriot offense again had an early surge against UT-San Antonio (23-19, 7-9) and this time, Patriot pitching made it stand up. Dallas Baptist (22-21, 9-8) defeated the Roadrunners, 5-2, with all runs for DBU coming in the first two innings.
Cy Sneed (3-3) picked up the win and
Joseph Shaw a three inning save as the duo combined to hold UTSA to seven hits on the afternoon.
Michael Miller once again led the Patriot offense and
Austin Listi had a key, two-out triple in the first inning to drive in two runs.
For the second straight game, DBU scored three runs in the first inning.
Boomer Collins and
Ronnie Mitchell opened the game for the Patriot offense with singles and
Duncan McAlpine drove in the first run of the afternoon with a single through the left side. The inning looked like it might fizzle at one run as UTSA starter Nolan Trabanino recorded two straight outs with runners on first and second but freshman
Austin Listi lifted a long, flyball triple to rightcenter to the push the early lead to 3-0.
Unlike last night, the Patriots were able to continue scoring in the second inning.
Nash Knight was hit by pitch to start the stanza and he scored when Mitchell picked up the second triple for DBU in as many innings when his line drive to rightfield bounced off the yellow line painted on the wall as part of the foul pole.
Michael Miller continued his hot streak at the plate with a single through the left side to score the Patriot rightfielder and make the score 5-0 through two innings.
Although UTSA scored two in the sixth off Sneed, he was able to make it through the inning and completed his day allowing five hits, two strikeouts, and only the two runs. He handed the ball to freshman
Joseph Shaw, who was electric. Shaw did not allow a run in collecting his first collegiate save by throwing the final three innings while striking out two Roadrunners. The outing from the two Patriot pitchers was needed as the Roadrunner staff was again able to stifle the Patriot offense late.
The DBU offense battled for 11 hits on the day – but only four of those came after the second inning. Yesterday, it was the third inning that spelled the end of the offensive surge for DBU. The bright spot for the Patriots was of the eleven hits, nine came from the top four batters in the order. Miller led with three to bring his hit total to seven in the two games so far this series. Collins, Mitchell and McAlpine all had two each.
Cody Beam will take the mound for DBU on Sunday as the Patriots and Roadrunners play the rubber game of the series at 1:00 pm. The Pregame Show will begin on dbupatriots.com/showcase at 12:35 pm.
