Women's Soccer Welcomes the Lady Buffs for Opener

DALLAS, Texas – The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer team will take to the pitch for its home opener Saturday at 1 pm against West Texas A&M. Kickoff at Patriot Soccer Field marks the first time the Patriots will be playing in front of a home crowd, after opening the season with three contests on the road.

DBU captured its first win on the campaign with a 2-1 final over Central Oklahoma University Thursday. Junior Kerry Edwards surrendered one goal in 90 minutes. Sophomores Ashley Cox and Lindsey Eccles each scored goals in the contest.

ECCLES LEADS OFFENSE – The forward has paced the Patriots offense through the first three games this season. The Denton, Texas, native's game winner on Thursday was her team leading second goal. Eccles also scored in the opener against Colorado School of Mines, and holds two of the team's three goals.

EDWARDS RECEIVES EARLY RECOGNITION – Edwards began the season nicely, claiming the week one accolade of Heartland Defensive Player of the Week. The McKinney, Texas, native has compiled a 1-1-1 record and pulled in 17 saves on the year. Her most notable performance came against then No. 10 Metro State, preserving a scoreless tie through 110 minutes that resulted in a 0-0 score. The junior has started every game since her collegiate debut and will suit up for her 48th start against the Buffalo.

SCOUTING WEST TEXAS A&M – The Lady Buffs remain in search of their first victory of the regular season. WT dropped its first two games and has finished its last two this week in stalemates. Senior Yvette Bedoy is a key player to watch piling up a Lone Conference leading 32 saves through four games. She is ranked second for the all-time saves list in school history with 228.

DBU trails in the all-time series 3-2 against West Texas A&M, but the Patriots have won the previous two matches. The most recent game dates back to Sept. 8, 2012 in Canyon with the Patriots victorious 2-1.

HOME SWEET HOME - Dallas Baptist enjoys a nice stretch in the friendly confines the next two weeks, with four of five contests taking place at Patriot Soccer Field. After Saturday's day game, the Patriots play a mid-week road game before opening a three game home stretch. Last year DBU went 8-2 at home.
