Women's Soccer Prepares to Meet Lions Wednesday

COMMERCE, Texas – The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer team looks to continue its winning streak in a mid-week road matchup at Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. DBU also will host Angelo State University on Friday. The Patriots snapped a three match winless streak dating back to last season with consecutive victories in both matches last week.

In their most recent outing, the Patriots relied on sharp kicking from sophomore Lindsey Eccles to edge out West Texas A&M 1-0 in overtime. It's the second overtime contest this season in four games and was the Patriots home opener. Junior Kerry Edwards played all 93:13 minutes and recorded her second shutout.

A few days prior, DBU captured its first win on the campaign with a 2-1 final over Central Oklahoma University Thursday. Junior Kerry Edwards surrendered one goal in 90 minutes. Sophomores Ashley Cox and Lindsey Eccles each scored goals in the contest.

ECCLES LEADS OFFENSE – The forward has paced the Patriots offense through the first three games this season. The Denton, Texas, native's game winner on Saturday was her team leading third goal. She also scored the game-leading goal against Central Oklahoma, and holds three of the team's four goals. Her most recent pair of game-winning goals extends her career number to eight.

EDWARDS RECEIVES RECOGNITION – Edwards began the season nicely, claiming the week one accolade of Heartland Defensive Player of the Week. The McKinney, Texas, native has compiled a 2-1-1 record and pulled in 17 saves on the year. Her most notable performance came against then No. 10 Metro State, preserving a scoreless tie through 110 minutes that resulted in a 0-0 score. The junior has started every game since her collegiate debut and will suit up for her 49th start against the Lions.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE – The Lions also enter Wednesday's contest riding a two game winning streak for a 2-1 record. Likewise, A&M-Commerce grabbed the victory in its home opener last Friday against Harding. All three scores occurred in the first half of the game.

Savannah Henderson kicked the first goal a couple minutes following Harding's first score to tie the game within the first ten minutes after kickoff. Anitra Wright put the Lions ahead for good with her second goal of the season at the 43:32 mark. The Lions held the shot advantage 20-3.

DBU defeated the Lions in last year's matchup at Patriots Soccer Field 2-0. Eccles was hot at the time too delivering both goals in the victory to extend her season total to five at the time through three games. Edwards recorded the shutout.

SCOUTING ANGELO STATE – ASU has performed to a 2-2-1 record through its first five games and will be up following Wednesday's game for the Patriots second home game in a week on Friday at 7 pm.

The Rambelles last played on Sunday and received two first-half goals to help defeat Colorado Mesa 2-0. Maggie Schaffer and Brianne Brown delivered the goals for the duo's first season goals and Brown's first in her career. Dani Edwards earned her first shutout on the season and has only allowed two goals while gathering 14 saves.

HOME SWEET HOME - Dallas Baptist enjoys a nice stretch in the friendly confines following Wednesday's action for three straight home contests. The stretch begins Friday against Angelo State and then Monday verses Texas Women's. Finally the trio of matches ends in a non-conference match with Heartland rival St. Edward's. The Patriots claimed the series against the co-champions going 2-1, including a 1-0 victory in the Heartland Conference Tournament. Last year DBU posted an 8-2 record at home.
