The DBU Lady Patriots Volleyball team opened the 2013 season at the Angelo State Invitational, Friday, dropping a 3-0 decision to host and 15
th-ranked Angelo State University, 25-16, 25-20, and 25-20. The Lady Patriots will make a quick turnaround, taking on Colorado Mesa University at 4 p.m. Live stats are available by clicking

The Lady Patriots and Rams traded shots early in the first set, before ASU pieced together an 8-1 run, including six straight at one point. Trailing 19-10, DBU tried to mount a comeback, taking four of the next five points. The Rams quickly halted the comeback, however, pulling away for a 25-16 set one win.
A fast start saw Angelo State take a 10-3 lead in the second set. DBU responded with plenty of fight, however, going on a 6-1 run to pull within two at 11-9. The Lady Patriots battled from behind the remainder of the set, pulling within one at 20-19, before a 5-1 ASU run ended the set at 25-20.
Despite a 3-0 DBU start in the third set, Angelo State slowly pulled away, completing the match win with a 25-20 set victory.
Erika Papadeas led the DBU offensive charge with eight kills, to go with seven digs.
Markayla Benoit was close behind, registering seven kills.
Tyler Bradsher set up her teammates with 16 assists.
On the defensive side,
Cameron Hartson earned a game-high 16 digs. Bradsher was joined by
Kaycie Bird for the next highest total, each turning in nine digs.
For Angelo State, Maddie Huth led the way with 16 kills, with Maggi Jo Keffury passing off 36 assists. Katie MacLeay led three players with double-figure digs, turning in 12.
