Box Score

Playing in their third match of the Angelo State Invitational, Saturday, the DBU Lady Patriots Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Tarleton State University. DBU (0-3) will play their final match of the tournament, Saturday at 4 p.m., against Colorado State University-Mesa.

After a tight start to the first set, with a 4-3 lead, Tarleton State (2-1) went on seven point run, extending their lead to 11-3. DBU fought back later in the set, going on a four-point run to pull within three at 16-13. The TexAnns pulled away from there, however, closing the set at 25-16.

Tarleton came out firing in set two, to the tune of a 7-0 run to start the frame. The Lady Patriots' best run came mid-set as they ran off a 4-1 stretch, but it was not enough to catch the Tarleton squad, who took a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 win.

The third set took a similar path, as the Lady Patriots fell behind 5-1 to start. The two squads battled points the rest of the way, with Tarleton taking the match at 25-16.

"We are making a lot of errors as a team," said DBU head coach Cathy Kokel. "But I couldn't ask more from our setters and Cameron (Hartson)."

Three different players tied for the match-high 10 kills, including DBU's Erika Papadeas. Kaycie Bird tossed up 14 assists, with Hartson securing the back row once again with a match-high 21 digs.

"Once our offense can match our defense, we will be at the level we need to be in order to be successful," added Kokel.

Papadeas completed the double-double with 13 digs, with Bird concluding the double-figure defensive effort, contributing 10 digs.

For Tarleton, Stacie Murrah and Kaitlyn White each earned 10 digs, with 36 assists from Danielle Barker. White was also the leading defender for the TexAnns with 17 digs.
