DBU Falls Short in Series Finale at Indiana State

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Baseball Team dropped the deciding game of their weekend series at Indiana State, 3-2 at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Sunday afternoon.  With the loss, Dallas Baptist (27-15, 7-5) drops their second consecutive series in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Mike Wesolowski belted his fourth homerun of the year with a solo shot to right field in the eighth inning that brought the Patriots to within one run of Indiana State (29-13, 9-6).  DBU would not be able to complete the come from behind win, as Camden Duzenack grounded out to short with two outs in the ninth and the tying run standing at second.

DBU got on the board early when they struck for a run in the second inning.  With the bases loaded and nobody out, KJ Alexander grounded into a double play, scoring Austin Listi from third.  That would be the only run the Patriots would manage to score in the inning, as Sycamore starter, Kurt Kudrecki, got Nash Knight to ground out to end the inning.

Indiana State would respond to DBU's missed opportunity with two runs in the bottom of the third.  Following a lead-off single by Landon Curry, a ground ball off the bat of Cody Zimmerman resulted in an error at second base on the force out attempt, giving the Sycamores runners at first and second and nobody out. After a wild pitch from Patriot starter, Cory Taylor, put runners at second and third, Jacob Hayes singled up the middle to score two runs and give Indiana State the lead.

The Sycamores would tack on one more run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Curry.

In a sluggish offensive day at the plate, Dallas Baptist would total just four hits to go along with their two runs.

Taylor took the tough-luck loss, going five-plus innings, allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out seven and walking four.  Indiana State's, Kudrecki, earned his fifth win of the season, holding DBU to just one run in six-plus innings of work.

Joseph Shaw was solid out of the pen in relief, holding the Sycamores scoreless in two innings on the mound, before giving way to Sean Stutzman, who retired the lone batter he faced in the eighth.

Dallas Baptist returns to the diamond when they wrap-up a four-game road trip in Norman, Oklahoma, versus the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday night.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
