BACK ON THE PITCHThe Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team opens a four-game home stand this Saturday, September 27 versus McMurry University. This stretch at Patriot Soccer Field is the longest of the campaign, and features three non-conference matches to wrap up that portion of the schedule.
Â
DBU (2-5) has dropped its last four matches in a row, a season-long, and hopes to right the ship against former Heartland Conference foe.
                                              Â
Both of the Patriots' victories have been decided by a goal, its latest coming in an overtime decision, 4-3, at Southern Nazarene on September 23.
Â
LAST TIME OUTDespite boasting at least three goals for the second time on the year, the Patriots allowed a season-high in Tuesday's 5-3 setback at Ouachita Baptist University. The contest concluded a 1-4 road trip, but did feature some life from an offense that had scored a goal or less in the previous three.
Â
Highlighting the scoring was a trio of strong scorers, junior
Brian Robertson, senior
David Balyeat, and redshirt sophomore
Landon Lacy. The duo of Robertson and Balyeat, last season's leading scorers, got the squad's first two goals with their first of the campaign. Each netter cut the deficit with the Tigers to one.
Â
Lacy concluded the scoring for DBU at the 85:17 minute mark to bring the score within two at 5-3, which would be the final result.
Â
The Patriots did hold a 22-11 shot advantage, a match-high on the road span for the team. It ties a season-best, tying the total they pounded on the net in a 2-1 setback against Colorado Christian on September 6.
Â
IMPACT PLAYERSLeading the way for the Patriots on offense is Lacy with three goals and seven points. He is one goal away from matching his season-best in 2012.
Â
Also contributing on the offensive side of the ball is sophomore
Riley Alvey. The native of Hideaway, Texas, ranks second on the squad with five points, two goals, and is tied with Lacy for second in shots with 14. Both of the forward's scoring results occurred on this recent road stint.
Â
The first was the game-tying netter in an eventual overtime victory at Southern Nazarene. Alvey only needs one more goal to match his career total in 2013..
Â
Robertson is ahead on the team with 16 shot attempts, and is tied for third with Balyeat with four points. The duo midfielders have each compiled a goal and two assists.
Â
Splitting time in the net have been sophomore
Mason Stringer and junior
Chuck Schober.
Â
Stringer has earned four starts in the goalkeeper position for the Patriots. He is a win away (2-2) from tying his career number set in 2013. The keeper has combined for 19 saves and faced 64 shots.
Â
Getting the nod in three of the last four contests, including back-to-back s on the road, is Schober. The McKinney, Texas, native is winless but has compiled 10 saves while facing 10 shots. Despite allowing five goals last time out, Schober kept his team in the affairs he worked prior to when they were victims of the two shutouts .
Â
HOME SWEET HOMEThe Patriots have been away most of the month of September, after producing a 1-1 record in the opening week the first week of the calendar. Saturday kicks off a season-long, four-game home stretch in the friendly confines.
Â
Last year, DBU posted a 4-3 record at Patriot Soccer Field, partly due to a 3-3 home stand on a six-game span that lasted through the later part of the campaign. A pair of those setbacks were determined by a goal.
Â
After this home stand, the Patriots will be gone for their second five-game road trip, before concluding the regular season slate with two conference matchups.
