KICK-OFF
The Dallas Baptist University Women's Soccer team tied Newman University, 0-0, on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. Goalkeeper Hope Koym tied her career high with 11 saves in the match to hold off the Jets.
 
In the first period of extra time, Koym was forced to make two of her 11 saves on a breakaway initiated by Rosa Urista-Chico, whose shot ricocheted off Koym into the direction of Madison Decker. Decker's shot was saved by a DBU defender and was deflcted toward Morgan Foster, who put a third shot on goal that was saved by Koym.
 
The Patriots continue their homestand against No. 24 Texas A&M-Commerce at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Patriot Soccer Field.
 
PATRIOT STORYLINES
-DBU has allowed the second fewest goals in the Heartland Conference in conference play (6).
 
-Hope Koym ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.877), shutouts (6) and shutouts per game (.429).
 
-Kristina Williamson has scored four goals in her last five matches.
 
 - Saturday marked the first draw at Patriot Soccer Field since September 3, 2011, a 1-1 tie with Texas Woman's University.
 
-The Patriots have two of the top-10 single-game save totals among Heartland Conference teams this year.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions are riding a five-game win streak that has vaulted them into the top-25 and resulted in a Lone Star Conference-leading 7-1 mark in conference play. In that span, they have outscored opponents 11-1. A bright note for the Patriots is the Lions' 3-3 mark on the road.
 
Savannah Grasser, the team leader in goals (9) and points (20), has four goals and an assist during the win streak. Goalkeeper Caitlin Duty has also played her best during that span, recording three shutouts and 20 saves, and allowing just one goal.
 
SERIES HISTORY
DBU is 3-8 all-time against Texas A&M-Commerce, winning last year's matchup 2-0 in Commerce, Texas. Junior forward Rebecca Kernen scored in the 34th minute off a pass from freshman forward Maddie Owen. Junior forward Cecily Martinez scored an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to extend DBU's lead to 2-0. Senior goalkeeper Jenna Ackerly recorded her seventh shutout and made five saves in the match to preserve the Patriot lead.
