LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Patriots opened up their season last week in the South Central Classic Tournament where they walked away with a 3-1 record. Their first two games were both on September 1st where they were able to take down Southern Arkansas 3-1 in their first game, but dropped the second 2-3 against Ouachita Baptist.
The Lady Patriots then turned around for another two games on September 2nd. The first of the day was against Cameron University where DBU won 3-2 in exciting fashion. After dropping the first two sets against Cameron the Lady Patriots had an impressive comeback by winning the next three to take the game. To finish off the tournament DBU played the hosts of the South Central Classic, Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Lady Patriots dropped the first set, but won the next three sets again to win 3-1. The South Central Classic Tournament was a great start for the Lady Patriots and they look to continue that success in the Tiger Invitational Tournament.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
- Lauren Nicks currently leads the team with 88 digs so far and the Lady Patriots will look to her leadership this week, being one of the team captains.
- After being named to the South Central Classic All-Tournament Team, Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick looks to have another impressive tournament performance.
- The Lady Patriots have tallied 48 blocks through four games and they hope to continue their defensive success these next few days.
- Out of the 192 team assists Merci Perry has contributed 129 of those. The Lady Patriots will continue to look to her to set them this week.
- Freshman, Brooke Clark had a great game to close the South Central Classic Tournament so she will be a player to watch out for in this tournament.
SCOUTING THE TOURNAMENT
- DBU opens up against the 0-4 East Central University Lady Tigers. East Central may be struggling early in the season, but since they are the hosts of the tournament and will be playing on their home court they are still a team for DBU not to take lightly.
- The Lady Patriots will play two games on Saturday, starting with Henderson State University. Henderson State is 2-2 so far this year and they're a team that will start strong or will go down quick. They lost their first game 1-3, won the second game 3-0, lost the third 0-3, and won their last game 3-0. An early lead will be key for the Lady Patriots in this one.
- To close out the tournament DBU will face Southern Nazarene University. The Storm are also coming from the South Central Classic Tournament where they went 2-3. The Storm are currently on a 3-game losing streak where they have lost all games 0-3. This team will come out looking for a strong win to turn them around, and since their first game of the tournament is against the Lady Patriots they will be sure to come out aggressive.
UP NEXT
After the Tiger Invitational Tournament the Lady Patriots will be on the road to face Texas A&M-Commerce September 12th before their first home game on September 14th against Tarleton State University.
