THE RUNDOWN
No. 19 Texas Tech defeated DBU 4-3 in extra innings Tuesday at Horner Ballpark. Texas Tech (6-2) erased a 3-1 deficit with a two-run blast in the eighth inning before plating the go-ahead run on a failed double play in the 10th. The 10-inning affair extends Texas Tech's win streak to five and clinches the season series versus DBU (4-4).
After going down 1-0 on a sacrifice fly in the second inning, DBU immediately rallied in the home half of the frame. Sophomore
Nate Rombach put the Patriots on top of his former club with a two-run blast to left field to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
The bats went quiet for both teams through the middle of the game, with each side tacking on just one run apiece between the third and seventh innings. Following a leadoff single in the fifth inning,
George Specht notched his second hit of the day with a double down the right-field line in the seventh inning.
Luke Heefner then looped a base hit into shallow centerfield to bring home Specht for the second RBI of his young career.
Texas Tech broke its silence in the eighth inning when Hudson White pushed across two more runs with a long ball over the wall in left off
Peyton Sherlin to tie the game, 3-3.
Luke Trahan then became the eighth and final Patriot pitcher to take the mound. The junior punched out two Red Raiders to close the side and give DBU a shot to win it in the home half of the ninth.
Rombach and
Blayne Jones each delivered base hits off different pitchers and threatened to walk-off Tech, but the game-winning run never came home, as the Patriots stranded the winning run at second.
Tech responded in their half of the 10th when a lead-off walk to Jace Jung put the go-ahead run on base.  After a Ty Coleman single put two on, Kurt Wilson reached on a fielders choice to put runners at first and third.  With one out, pinch-hitter Ryan Brome hit a soft bouncer to second and legged out the throw to first base to stay out of a double play and put the Red Raiders on top, 4-3.
In the 10th, Texas Tech went on to close out DBU on the arm of Trendan Parish, as the freshman right-hander retired the side in order.
