Lady Patriots Conclude Hilltopper Classic with Loss to Barry

THE RUNDOWN
DBU (2-2) fell to Barry University (4-0) on Saturday evening in 3-0 sweep to close out the Hilltopper Classic in Austin, Texas. Despite the loss, AJ Koele was a bright spot for the Lady Patriots, accumulating 16 kills while hitting .302.

DBU jumped out to an early lead in set one. However, after going up 5-2, Barry responded to flip the script to a 10-6 advantage for the Buccaneers. Thanks in part to a short spell of errors by Barry, the Lady Patriots came back to tie the first set at 15 before the Bucs ran away with the set on a 10-3 run.

Barry controlled a close second set. The Buccaneers never trailed in the frame, and the only tie was at 1-1. DBU trailed by as many as 6 but threatened late to shrink the margin to 2, 18-16. DBU hitters were faced with a tough defensive front as Barry deflected three DBU attacks for blocks, but Koele still managed to hit .500 with 6 kills.

The third set started with an early lead for the Bucs, 8-3. The teams exchanged one and two points at a time for the next several changes in serve. The Lady Patriots started to hit a stride when they scored three consecutive kills by Lauryn Burt, Lindsey Otero, and Delaney Fuller. Barry answered with a three-point stretch of its own before the teams alternated points to finish the match.
