THE RUNDOWN
No. 1 DBU blanked UT Tyler, 1-0, Wednesday night at Patriot Soccer Field. An
Annie Severide goal in the 16th minute was all DBU needed on a night where the defense held UTT's nation-leading offense to just eight shots. The win is DBU's (5-0) second in a row in shutout fashion and has the team out to its best start to a fall season in program history.
Annie Severide and
Kaleigh Naizer probed the UT Tyler defense in the opening minutes. But after an early save from UTT (5-1) goalkeeper Camri Cecil, Naizer found Severide on the back post to deliver the game's lone goal.
A strong defensive effort from
Rachel Allen helped the Patriots take the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. The sophomore defender kept UTT's top offensive threat, Alvarado Samaris, in front of her throughout the first half.
DBU kept the same defensive intensity over the final 45 minutes, as
Parker Coe and
Ella McQuaid helped hold UT Tyler to just three shots in the second half.
