No. 3 DBU Wins Third Straight With 3-2 Win Over Orediggers

THE RUNDOWN
No. 3 DBU held off Colorado School of Mines, 3-2, in a showdown between perennial soccer powers on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. Two goals from Annie Severide in the second half along with a goal and a pair of assists from Angelina Olmos propelled the Patriots to their second win over an opponent from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and South Central Region opponent to begin the 2022 season.

DBU (3-0) struck first in the 27th minute when Olmos scored her first career goal with a right-footed shot from just inside the 18-yard box. The Patriots would hold onto a 1-0 lead going into the break and controlled the first half, outshooting Mines, 10-5.

The Orediggers (2-1-1) began to the tide in the opening moments of the second half, applying consistent offensive pressure before Laura Butler delivered the game-tying goal 20 minutes into the half.  The Patriots wasted no time in responding as Annie Severide quickly netted a goal when her left-footed shot from inside the box ricocheted off of Mines' goalkeeper, Allie Lundgren, and into the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, Severide placed a goal into the top right corner to put the Patriots ahead by two goals.

The Orediggers were able to draw to within a goal when Reese McDermott scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year with just inside nine minutes left to play. Mines would continue to apply pressure and with 18 seconds remaining, Adrianna Schroeder made a game-saving deflection of McDemott's shot to the bottom left corner to preserve a 3-2 win.
