No. 25 Patriots Earn 3-1 Win Over Midwestern State

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 25 DBU Women's Soccer Team came away with a 3-1 win over Midwestern State on Saturday night at Stang Park in Wichita Falls. Two goals in the first half and one in the second solidified the Patriots' eighth win of the season.

Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Midwestern State gave themselves two good looks, but DBU's freshman goalkeeper Carmen Lopez intercepted each shot, earning her first two saves of the night. Lopez would finish the night with a total of three saves.

The Patriots went on to score first in the 34th minute on a shot by Taylor Tufts assisted by Haley Roberson. Six minutes later, Sophia Schrock, assisted by Joeli Benson, would deliver a second goal for the Patriots and hand DBU a 2-0 advantage going into halftime.

The second half started off quickly with a goal by MSU in the 49th minute. Cassidy Savoy earned the first goal of the night for the Mustangs, making the score 2-1.

The Patriots responded with another goal just three minutes later when Tufts's corner kick connected with Parker Coe. In the final 37 minutes, multiple subs came into the game for DBU as they held off the Mustangs from scoring again. DBU's 3-1 win earns them three points toward their Lone Star Conference standings.

COACH WOOD ON THE WIN

"Early in the game Midwestern did a nice job defensively and limited our opportunities. The first good chance of the game went to Midwestern and Carmen made an exceptional save. We opened the scoring with a banger from Taylor Tufts on a nice pass from Haley Roberson. The second goal was a breakthrough moment for Madison Parks. She has always gotten around the width but now she added the final pass to Sophia Schrock. 2nd half MSU scored an incredible goal but we answered quickly on a corner; Tufts to Parker Coe. Many players played very well tonight. We seem to be improving with each game. We are excited to get back at it next week."
