THE RUNDOWN
DBU finished Texas Woman's in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas. The Lady Patriots outhit the Pioneers in each frame.
DBU (16-6, 9-2) sprinted to a quick lead in the first set, forcing a TWU (14-7, 6-4) timeout with the score at 10-3. The Pioneers slowly narrowed the gap to 17-14, but the Lady Patriots used an 8-4 run to recreate separation and take the opening frame.
Neither squad pulled ahead by more than a point through the first 17 rallies of set two. DBU broke the vacillating play with a 10-4 stretch to go up 19-12 and stayed in front to set up the opportunity for a sweep.
Delaney Fuller,
Abby Phillips, and
Shaylee Shore each executed four kills in the frame, and
Karly Wells added three of her own.
Back-to-back Fuller kills commenced the third and established the tone for the set. The Lady Patriot offense clicked to the tune of a .464 attack percentage in the frame while the defense held the Pioneers to only eight kills on 22 attempts. Down 22-13, TWU made a late surge, but Shore's 13th kill of the afternoon finished the match and a 2-0 weekend for DBU.
