THE RUNDOWN
In a match with postseason implications, DBU continued its dominance at The Burg Center with a 3-1 win over UAFS on Wednesday night. The Lady Patriots improved to 5-0 at home this season.
Â
The conference foes played nearly even volleyball in the opening stages of the first set. UAFS (17-5, 7-2) slowly broke away with a three-point stint to go up 11-8. The Lions held onto the slim lead, extending it to seven and taking the first set.
Â
DBU (17-6, 10-2) sprinted to an early advantage in the second, starting the frame on a 9-3 run. The Lions climbed into contention to tie the game at 15, but the Lady Patriots found new life, finishing the set on a 10-4 spurt.
Delaney Fuller led the DBU offense with six kills in the set.
Â
After splitting the first dozen rallies, the Lady Patriots deliberately worked to distance themselves from the Lions in the third. A 12-5 stretch separated DBU from UAFS 18-11, and the Lady Patriots swiped set three behind a defensive effort that held the Lions to a 0.091 clip.
Â
Another close beginning blossomed into a runaway victory for the Lady Patriots in the fourth frame. DBU snapped a 5-5 tie and did not trail for the rest of the set. Fuller contributed another half-dozen kills while
Price Reeves added five en route to a match-sealing fourth-set win.
