THE RUNDOWN
DBU extended its win streak to seven matches with a sweep of Western New Mexico at The Burg Center on Friday night. The Lady Patriots improved to 6-0 in the Lone Star Conference, their best six-game start in conference ever.
After a 10-10 beginning to the match, the teams alternated rally wins for eight consecutive points, and the totals stayed tight until an 18-18 tie. The Mustangs (4-14, 0-6) took the next rally, but DBU (13-4, 6-0) answered by stealing the last seven points of the set.
With the Lady Patriots up in the set count, WNMU held its own again in the early stage of the second. Leveled at seven apiece, DBU began to break away with a quick 4-0 run, but the Mustangs slowed the pace. The Lady Patriots maintained their distance, though never leading by more than six.
Delaney Fuller,
Audrey Nunes,
Shaylee Shore,
Sadie Washburn, and
Karly Wells each executed three kills in the frame to set up DBU for a potential sweep.
WNMU pulled away in third, 10-7, but the Lady Patriots fought back to go in front 13-12. Carly Deck tied the game at 13, but DBU responded with another 7-0 stretch that all but sealed the victory for the Lady Patriots.
