Lady Patriots Clinch Share of LSC Title, Claim Right to Host Conference Tournament

THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots prevailed over UT Permian Basin in sweeping fashion on Saturday afternoon at The Burg Center to conclude the 2023 regular season on Senior Day. DBU's win and a loss by No. 5 West Texas A&M gives the Lady Patriots their first conference regular season title in program history.

DBU (22-6, 14-2) came out of the gates sprinting, forcing a quick timeout by the Falcons (17-10, 8-8) at 5-1. Despite the stoppage in play, the Lady Patriots kept rolling, using a 9-4 stretch to jump ahead 14-5 and cruise to a first-set win.

Set two was more of the same. DBU started on a 16-6 run and held firm throughout the frame. The Lady Patriot offense hit an impressive .400 in the second while holding UTPB to a .100 clip. Seven players from DBU recorded a kill en route to a 25-13 score.

Eyeing a sweep, the Lady Patriots fell behind for the first time in the match by dropping the first rally of the third. Down 4-2, DBU surged, winning eight of the following 10 points. The margin spread to 15-9, but the Falcons narrowed the gap to 18-16. The Lady Patriots answered a 7-3 run by UTPB with a closing 7-4 stretch to close out the regular season with a victory.

After the game, graduating seniors Audrey Nunes, Leah Palensky, and Abby Phillips were honored as part of the Senior Day festivities.
