THE RUNDOWN
For the first time in program history, DBU Volleyball played a Lone Star Conference tournament game on their home floor at the Burg Center, earning a 3-1 victory over Texas A&M International. The win sends the Lady Patriots into Friday's semifinal round.
The first set was much of a back-and-forth one, with Texas A&M International taking a 15-12 lead, forcing DBU into a timeout. The Patriots rallied to tie the set at 20 and would eventually claim an incredibly tight 27-25 first-set victory after two straight errors from Texas A&M International to close out the set.
Set two had a less-than-ideal start for the Lady Patriots as Texas A&M International used a 6-0 run to jump out to a quick lead. Late in the set, TAMIU would hold a 19-11 advantage and used that to cruise to a 25-16 set two victory, tying the game at one set apiece.
In the critical third set, the game returned to its back-and-forth nature with the set being tied at 7 and later at 17. The Dustdevils would force a pair of Lady Patriot timeouts after gaining a 21-18 lead late in the set. However, DBU would use an incredible 7-1 to take the third set in comeback fashion, taking a 2-1 lead in the match. The Lady Patriots hit .257 en route to their comeback set-three victory.
With DBU looking to close out the game, two aces from
Delaney Fuller and a kill by
Karly Wells saw the Patriots take a 9-6 lead. The Lady Patriots would cruise to match point up 24-17 when Shaylee Shoore would swing home the game-winner.
