THE RUNDOWN
DBU claimed the series over Fordham after a 19-5 win over the Rams on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots (2-0) used a 17-hit attack that included 12 extra-base hits to propel them to a dominating win over Fordham (0-2).
DBU scored multiple runs in six of their eight innings at the plate highlighted by a pair of four-run innings to start the game. The Patriots' four-run first was punctuated by a two-run double by
Nate Rombach. It would be the first of two doubles for Rombach on the day. In the bottom of the second,
Luke Heefner and Rombach delivered back-to-back run-scoring doubles to extend the Patriot lead to 8-0.
In the third,
Tom Poole left the yard for the first time in 2023 when he blasted the first pitch he saw over the wall in center for a two-run homer.
Ryan Johnson worked four scoreless innings in his first start of the year, striking out seven and left the game with a 10-0 lead.
In the Patriots' half of the fourth, Rombach delivered a solo homer to right-center. Three batters later, Poole smashed his second round-tripper of the day when he hit a 3-2 offering out of the park.
Miguel Santos would get into the home run act when he hit a solo shot that cleared the 18-foot wall in left in the bottom of the fifth to extend DBU's lead to 14-1.
Freshman
Grant Jay also produced a monster day at the plate. After picking up his first career hit with a single in the second, Jay ripped an RBI double in the sixth and capped off his day with a two-run blast in the eighth.

DAN HEEFNER ON THE OFFENSIVE APPROACH
"I liked what I saw from the approach today. We put together good at-bats up and down the lineup and it was the way we did it with guys working the count until they got a good pitch to hit."
