THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Tennis team dropped their quarterfinal match of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday to No. 20 St. Mary's, 4-1. In a match that began on Thursday and was resumed on Friday due to inclement weather, the Lady Patriots were unable to seize the momentum after winning the doubles point and lost four singles matches to fall to the nation's 20th-ranked team.
In one of the top doubles matchups in the country, the No. 10 ranked team of
Angela Charles-Alfred and
Jenna Payne defeated a ninth-ranked team of Ashley Penshorn and Kyndall Quiroz, 6-4, at the line 1 position. DBU would secure the doubles point when
Caroline Hudson and
Madison Stafford claimed a 6-4 win in line 2 action.
Despite the victory in doubles play, the Lady Patriots dropped singles matches at the line 1, 2, 4, and 6 spots. With the loss, DBU bowed out in the quarterfinal round and will now wait to see if they are selected as an at-large team to the NCAA Tournament.
