The DBU Volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision in five sets to Sioux Falls at the Maverick Fall Classic on Friday in Grand Junction, Colorado. In the first two sets, DBU (3-2) suffered a pair of losses by narrow margins, losing the first set 25-22, followed by a 25-21 defeat in the second. Trailing 2-0, the Lady Patriots' comeback began with a 25-18 win in the third set. Tied at 11 apiece, a ball handling error on Sioux Falls (2-3) led to a 4-0 run for DBU as the Lady Patriots would off the Cougars for a seven-point win.
Down by a point, DBU continued their comeback with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set. A service ace by Fuller, followed by a block assist from the front row tandem of
Shaylee Shore and
Kennedi Sutter handed the Lady Patriots a 6-5 advantage. DBU would not surrender their lead, outscoring Sioux Falls 19-11 the rest of the way.
With the match tied at two sets apiece, the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 to begin the fifth set. DBU was unable to recover and despite pulling as close as two points (13-11), Sioux Falls closed out the game by scoring the final two points to hand DBU a 15-11 defeat in the deciding set.
