THE RUNDOWNÂ
No. 9 DBU earned their sixth win of the season in a 2-1 final against Lubbock Christian. The goals were scored by Angelina Olmos and Taylor Tufts in each half.Â
The Patriots dominated possession for the entirety of the match, creating several great chances in the first half. DBU totaled four shots, and in the 8th minute, Haley Roberson made a shot but was called offside. The Patriots continued to press offensively, and their hard work paid off when Angelina Olmos delivered the first goal of the match for the Patriots in the 20th minute. She dribbled the ball into the box undefended, making a shot into the bottom right corner of the net. DBU controlled the match for the next 25 minutes of the first half, heading into the break with a 1-0 lead. Â
Six minutes into the second half, Angelina Olmos made a pass inside the box to Taylor Tufts, who scored DBU's second goal. Her shot made it past LCU sophomore goalkeeper Kara Murray in the top left corner of the goal. In the 75th minute, offensive momentum shifted to the Lady Chaps when their offense made a move with Ella Spiller's shot inside the box that caught the top post. DBU defense worked quickly to get the ball out of LCU's offensive half, keeping their 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, LCU saw another close chance but was called offside. The Lady Chaps found their first goal in the 86th minute to break through the clean sheet. Ella Spiller headed LCU's corner chance into the back right of the net. Â
Though LCU had an offensive surge in the final 15 minutes of the match, the Patriots held onto their lead, earning win No. 6 of the 2024 season.
