Three First Half Goals Propel No. 11 Women's Soccer to Shutout Win at UTPB

THE RUNDOWN
On Saturday, the No. 11 DBU Women's Soccer team delivered their second straight shutout in Lone Star Conference play with a 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. The Patriots used three first-half goals and another solid defensive performance to improve to 2-0-1 in conference play.

Taylor Tufts, last year's Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, opened the scoring for the Patriots in the 13th minute with her first goal of the season. Angelina Olmos created the scoring opportunity with a run up the right side of the pitch, crossing a pass into Tufts, who made a shot fake and then delivered her shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The Patriots would hold onto a one-goal lead over the next 28 minutes until Parker Coe struck with DBU's second goal, with the assist coming from Tufts. Just over a minute later, the Patriots struck again when Emily Bates netted her first career goal on a shot that went past UTPB goalkeeper Valeria Delgado into the back right corner. The assist came from McKenna Vela, who was making her first appearance of the season.

Leading 3-0 at the break, DBU's defense would dominate the final 45 minutes. The Patriots held UTPB to eight shots on the afternoon, with only one coming on goal.

With the 3-0 win over the Falcons, DBU notches their second straight win in LSC action after opening league play with a 3-3 draw against Oklahoma Christian.
