The No. 11 DBU Women's Soccer team won for the third straight time after defeating St. Mary's, 2-0, on Monday night at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio, Texas.
The Patriots struck first in the 18th minute when sophomore
McKenna Vela punched a left-footed shot into the top right corner of the goal, with the assist coming from
Taylor Tufts. DBU's defense would stymie the Rattlers' offense in the first half, holding St. Mary's to four shots through the first 45 minutes.
The Patriots added to their lead just four minutes into the second half as
Kaleigh Naizer connected with
McKenna Vela, who delivered her second goal of the night. The Patriot offense mounted constant pressure on the Rattlers, taking 19 shots over the final 45 minutes and matching their season-high in shots with 30. Defensively, the Patriots limited St. Mary's to just two shots during the second half.
