Lady Patriots Close Out their Historic Season in 4-1 Loss to Midwestern State in NCAA Division II Prelims

THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots doubles teams quickly proved why the DBU Women's Tennis team is proficient in doubles, as they won a very close doubles point. Caroline Hudson and Madalyn Smelley came back from 0-4 to win 6-4 at line 2. The deciding match came at line 3, as Sarah Castleberry and Jenna Payne came back from a 2-4 deficit to claim the match, 7-5, giving DBU a 1-0 lead going into singles.

Midwestern State's top 3 players played lights out in singles, not giving the Lady Patriots a chance to reply; however, at lines 4,5 and 6, the matches were quite close. Sofia Teran battled back from a set down to force a third set, while Emily Buchanan was also in her third set when MSU clinched the match at line 4 by winning a tiebreaker in the second set of that singles match. Despite the loss in the round of 32, the Lady Patriots travel back to Dallas, Texas, with their heads held high and a historic run behind them.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

- First NCAA Appearance in 8 years, 2nd in program history.
- First Regional Title to come back to DBU in program history.
- First win over a top 5 program.
- The Lady Patriots will finish with multiple players nationally ranked in singles and doubles.

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE LADY PATRIOTS' SEASON PERFORMANCE

"I am so proud of our girls this year who played extremely close matches, time and time again. They showed their ability to learn and adapt as we fought our way through a very tough conference schedule. There's no doubt in my mind that they left it all out on the court and played for an audience of one. We will be back."
