THE RUNDOWN
The No. 16 Patriots win 1-0 over No. 4 Central Missouri in a headline matchup at Patriot Soccer Field on Thursday night.
In the first half, the Patriots dominated possession, outshooting the Jennies 10-2 with four shots on goal. DBU's defense also had a standout performance, shutting down the No. 20 scoring offense in the nation. Junior Parker Coe anchored this defense, not allowing UCM's leading scorers Caroline Cole and Andree Orcutt to make any plays.
In the second half, the Patriots continued to control momentum with senior Taylor Tufts making three shot attempts before Kaleigh Naizer scored DBU's first goal of the evening, giving them a 1-0 lead over the Jennies. Tufts made a long shot outside of the box that was blocked by UCM goalkeeper Kristen Wright. Naizer found the blocked ball loose in the box and made the right-footed shot in the top right corner of the goal in the 67th minute.
In the remaining 23 minutes, DBU continued to defend well, not allowing any shots by Central Missouri. Sophomore Elise Borders had the lone shot for the Patriots after their goal, and DBU concluded the match with a 1-0 victory over the Jennies.
