Lady Patriots Sweep Bentley on Opening Day to Jumpstart 2024 Campaign

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Volleyball team took down the Bentley Falcons in just three sets to kick off the Dallas Classic, as well as the 2024 season. The Lady Patriots have now won 25 consecutive regular-season contests played at The Burg Center, dating back to October 2021.

The Lady Patriots trailed early in the first set down 6-2 and were forced to claw back. DBU rattled off five straight points to take their first lead of the set and fought off a hungry Bentley team, who forced a tied score a total of 9 times in the first set before ultimately giving way to the Patriots at 25-23. Karly Wells led the Lady Patriots' attack with five kills in the opening set.

Early in the second set, the Patriots and Falcons were battling for momentum while knotted up at 6-6, before the Lady Patriots jumped to a 9-6 lead. They wouldn't relinquish that advantage for the rest of the middle frame, and Price Reeves would end up closing out set two with her eighth kill of the contest. Delaney Fuller led the troops with six kills in the second set.

DBU looked dominant for the majority of the third set, bringing home their first victory after winning set three by a score of 25-18. Delaney Fuller once again led the way with six of the Lady Patriots' nine total kills in the final set of the evening. She would also slam the door on the contest, using her 16th and final kill of the game to put the Falcons away.
