THE RUNDOWN
DBU (12-12, 6-10 LSC) fell to UT Dallas (8-19, 5-11 LSC) in four sets Friday night in the first-ever matchup between the two programs. For just the fourth time this season, the game's leading attacker didn't come from the DBU side of the net. In the loss,
Karly Wells finished with 22 kills on 61 swings.
The Lady Patriots led 15-10 in the first set before the Comets stormed back and took the opening frame in deuce play, 28-26.
After leading by a smaller margin throughout the second set, DBU was able to pull away to another five-point lead, this time at 20-15. UT Dallas would then win 13 of the next 19 rallies, winning set two via the exact same score as the first.
A
Lauren Witte kill would give DBU a 20-14 lead late in the third set, their largest lead of the night up until that point. This time around, the Lady Patriots would hold on, winning set three by a score of 25-21.
However, DBU's fortunes would run out right then, as once the Comets took a 9-8 lead in the fourth, they wouldn't let it go. UT Dallas capped off the night with a 25-20 set four victory.
