THE RUNDOWN
The top-ranked DBU Women's Soccer team suffered their first setback of the 2025 season on Tuesday night, falling 2–0 to Midwestern State at Patriot Soccer Field. The defeat ends the Patriots' 16-game win streak and marks their first loss since last year's NCAA Tournament.
DBU appeared to strike early when
Chandler Wheat found the back of the net in the fifth minute, but the goal was waved off after an offsides call on the freshman forward. Just two minutes later, the Mustangs capitalized on a set piece opportunity as Lillia Besedin headed home the opening goal off a free kick.
The Patriots controlled much of the second half, applying relentless pressure on the Mustang defense and outshooting MSU 14–5 over the final 45 minutes. In the 84th minute,
McKenna Vela's strike ricocheted off the crossbar, narrowly missing the equalizer. One minute later, MSU's Nyxalee Munoz added a second goal from close range to seal the upset.
