The Lady Patriots Improve Heartland Conference Record

The Lady Patriots take the first of a two game series against the UT-Permian Basin Falcons to improve to 8-2 in Heartland Conference play, and 16-12 overall for the season.

DBU started out strong tonight by winning a tight first set 25-23, and never looked back.

Lady Patriot Freshman outside hitter Kaylan Frink had an outstanding overall performance. She racked up a game high 14 kills and added 13 defensive digs to bring her team to victory.

The Falcon's Amithy Henry tried to keep UTPB's hopes alive by adding a team high 8 kills to the stat column, but it was not enough to bring down The Lady Patriots. DBU shut the Falcons out 3-0 by finishing off the second and third sets 25-18 and 25-19.

"We stayed focused and earned our points tonight. That is the reason we were so successful. We did not wait for the Falcons to make errors. We capitalized on our offensive opportunities with accurate attacks. We went into the game aggressive and stayed that way. Tonight was the best offensive match we have played all year!" Lady Patriot Head Coach Cathy Ray said.

Other Lady Patriot Notables: Junior Vickie Mundell (35 assists, 9 digs), Junior Lauren Zegarelli (10 kills), Sophomore Mallory Scott (13 digs), Junior Erin Black (10 digs)

Heartland Conference play continues November 1, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. as The Lady Patriots host the Falcons from UT-Permian Basin.
