Lady Patriots Finish Season Opening Weekend with 2-2 Record

The Lady Patriots Volleyball Team completed the second day of the 2009 Maverick Showcase on Saturday with a record of 1-1, improving their overall season record to 2-2. The University of Nebraska-Omaha defeated the Lady Patriots by the score of 3-1 in the morning match up before DBU bounced back to defeat Tarleton University 3-1.

The Lady Patriots were led by Sophomore Kaylyn Frink and Freshman Christina Steinkruger as each pounded 11 kills a piece in the loss. The first set ended with UNO leading 1-0, but the Lady Patriots won the second set to tie up the match, but accurate hitting for UNO was too much for the Lady Patriot defense as they dropped the next two sets to fall to UNO 3-1.

Senior Tiffany Coffey led the Lady Patriots on the offensive side of the court in the second game of the day vs. Tarleton University as she recorded a game high 14 kills. The Lady Patriots started early, grabbing the first two sets before dropping the third to TU leaving the score 2-1. The Lady Patriots came out strong in the fourth set defeating TU for the win 25-16.

The Lady Patriots are back in action on Tuesday, September 2, as they welcome Texas Woman's University to the DBU Campus. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
