Lady Patriots Sweep UAFS

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team swept the University of Arkansas Fort Smith in three sets on Friday afternoon, in the annual “Dig Pink” game at the Burg Center. With the win, DBU (12-12) avenges a 0-3 loss suffered earlier in the season to the Lions, and maintains their position atop the Heartland Conference with a 5-1 record.

With aggressive play that resulted in 48 total kills, the Lady Patriots kept the visiting Lions on their heels for most of the afternoon. DBU ended the match with a .292 attack percentage, compared to a .103 percentage from UAFS.

The Lady Patriots came out on fire in the opening set, winning by ten points, 25-15. In set two, DBU continued their aggressive play, winning 25-15.

UAFS challenged the Lady Patriots down to the wire in set three, forcing the game to extra points. The two teams were never separated more than three points throughout the set, and were knotted at 24 apiece. The two teams traded numerous advantage points, but DBU struggled to put the Lions away.

Finally, with the Lady Patriots holding a 31-30 advantage, a tenacious kill by Junior Kaylyn Frink, wrapped up the sweep for DBU, with a 32-30 win.

Frink, who has missed two of the last three matches due to an injury, led the Lady Patriots with 22 kills and 13 digs in her return. Sophomore Christina Steinkruger added 11 kills, while Freshman Lauren Pavloske led the team defensively with 22 digs.

The Lady Patriots will return to action in the Burg Center tomorrow afternoon, as they face Newman University in a 12:00 p.m. matchup.
