Results
The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball Team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday afternoon by the score of 17-4. The win moves the Patriots to 4-1 on the season.
Kyle Galbraith singled to lead off the game for the Broncos and later scored on a RBI groundout by Grant Simotes, for the early 1-0 lead.
Junior
Ryan Thompson started the afternoon off for the Patriots with his double in the second inning, followed by a walk by Junior
Chris Haney. Senior
Austin Knight doubled, advancing Haney and scoring Thompson to even the game at 1-1. Senior
Travis Meiners tripled off the right field wall to score two runs later in the inning, giving the Patriots a 5-1 lead.
Thompson opened up the third when he reached on a Bronco error and then advanced to second off a wild pitch. Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh doubled to advance Thompson to third, and Haney singled to the left field to drive in the RBI. Junior Tyler Robins reached on a fielder's choice, Haney advanced to second on a throwing error, and Behmanesh scored to make it a 7-1 game. Junior
Jason Krizan drove in two more Patriot runs with his double to right center, to give DBU a 9-1 lead after three.
In the fifth, Senior
Ryan Enos was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on back-to-back singles by Robbins and Krizan. Meiners reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Enos, and making it a 10-1 lead for the Patriots.
The Broncos trimmed the Patriot lead to six after scoring three in the top of the seventh.
DBU responed by adding two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and another five in the eighth to seal the 17-4 win.
The Patriots are back in action Saturday, February 26, at Patriot Field as they host Western Michigan for a double header beginning at 1:00 p.m.
