The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team picked up their 1500th school win on Thursday evening with a 14-1 win over Grambling State. The Patriots have had 31 consecutive winning seasons on their way to the milestone, dating all the way back to 1979. With the win, DBU moves to 19-15 on the season.
Freshman
Will Lane picked up his third win of the year for the Patriots after pitching seven innings, allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out eight. Freshman reliever
Stuart Pudenz earned his first save of the season, pitching two innings, allowing one hit, and striking out three.
Senior
Austin Knight led off for the Patriots in the bottom of the first with a single and later advanced to second after Junior
Tyler Robbins was hit by a pitch. Junior
Jason Krizan doubled to score Knight, and Senior
Ryan Enos grounded out to score Robbins, making it a 2-0 game. Freshman
Austin Elkins and Junior
Josh Wilson each singled later in the inning, scoring two more runs for DBU, and giving the Patriots a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless second for the Tigers, Robbins doubled to lead off the second, followed by a two run home run by Enos, making it a 6-0 lead.
DBU added one run in the third and one in the fourth, on a sacrifice fly by Knight and a RBI single by Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh, giving the Patriots a 7-0 lead.
After a one run fifth for the Tigers, Krizan earned two RBI with a double to right center in the bottom of the inning, scoring Robbins and Meiners to make it a 10-1 lead. Enos then made it 11-1, with his RBI double to score Krizan.
A short rain delay to start off the sixth didn't slow down the Patriot offense, as Knight connected on a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, to score Wilson, and make it a 12-1 game.
Elkins singled to right field to lead off the seventh, and Behmanesh capped off the night for the Patriots with his fourth homerun of the season, sealing the 14-1 win.
The Patriots will be back in action tomorrow evening for game two against the Tigers. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
