The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Volleyball Team suffered their first Heartland Conference loss on Saturday in Wichita, Kansas. The Lady Patriots were defeated by Newman University, falling in four sets, 15-25, 25-22, 23-25, and 20-25. DBU is now 7-8 overall, and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference.
The Jets from Newman used 16 kills, no errors, and an impressive .516 attack percentage to take the opening set of the match.
In the second set, the Jets jumped out to an early 12-6 lead before the Lady Patriots rallied. Trailing by six points, DBU ran off ten straight points to recapture the lead, 16-12. The Jets kept the game close, but a final point kill by DBU Sophomore
Becky Swann sealed the second set victory for the Lady Patriots.
The Jets went on to win the next two in front of their home crowd, 25-23 and 25-20. The Jets are now in second place in the Heartland Conference with a 3-1 record. DBU falls to third place as they prepare to face conference leader, St. Edward's University.
DBU was led by Swann who ended the day with 12 kills. Junior
Kaylyn Frink had nine kills and nine digs, while Freshman
Lauren Pavloske ended with a team-high 16 digs.
Up next for the Lady Patriots is a home game against St. Edward's University on Tuesday, September 28. Game time at the Burg Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
