Lady Patriot Volleyball Drops First Home Game of the Season

After finishing 3-1 in the Lady Buffs Classic this past weekend, the Dallas Baptist University Volleyball Team suffered their first home loss of the season, as they fell to the visiting Mustangs from Midwestern State, 1-3. The Lady Patriots are now 3-2 overall on the season.

The Lady Patriots fell behind early, dropping the opening game, 14-25. Struggling to find their rhythm, DBU committed 10 errors in the first game, while the Mustangs accumulated 12 kills. Freshman Cameron Hartson and Sophomore Kara Kemp led the Lady Patriots offensively with three kills each.

DBU rallied in game two, using seven kills and seven digs from Hartson, for the 25-20 win. Freshman Lauren Pavloske and Sophomore May Allen led the Lady Patriots defensively with 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

Midwestern State used a strong front line to finish the last two sets, 25-21 and 25-18. At the net, the Mustangs accumulated 31 kills in the final two sets to go along with only eight errors. Midwestern State's size at the net gave the Lady Patriots trouble all night, as the Mustangs picked up 11 blocks defensively.

Hartson ended the night with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Junior Kaylyn Frink added 11 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore May Allen led DBU defensively with 18 digs.

DBU will head to Austin later this week to take part in the St. Edward's Hilltopper Classic. The first game of the tournament will be against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The next home game for the Lady Patriots will be on September 16, when they host Heartland Conference rival, Oklahoma Panhandle State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
