The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team captured the first game of the series against Houston Baptist on Thursday afternoon with a 16-6 romping at Husky Field. The Patriots improve to 16-9 on the season with the win, while the Huskies drop to 1-20.
Senior ace
Brandon Williamson earned his fifth win of the season, pitching six innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, and striking out three.
Three Patriots collected at least three hits on the afternoon, led by Junior
Ryan Behmanesh who went five for seven at the plate, recording six RBI. Junior
Landon Anderson and
Jason Krizan were the other hot bats for DBU, recording four and three hits, respectively.
DBU took control of the game early, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning. With the bases loaded Junior
Kenny Hatcher scored on a Husky throwing error, followed by a RBI single from Anderson to score the first two runs of the day. After HBU walked in the third Patriot run, Behmanesh picked up his first RBI of the day with a single to center field, scoring Senior
Josh Wilson, and giving the Patriots a 4-0 lead. Junior
Joel Hutter capped off the scoring in the inning for the Patriots with a sacrifice fly, making it a 5-0 advantage.
Two more Husky errors in the top half of the third resulted in another run for DBU when Wilson's bunt was mishandled, scoring Sophomore
Duncan McAlpine. Krizan earned his first RBI of the game later in the inning with a single to right field, followed by another run walked in by the Husky pitching staff to make it an 8-0 lead.
Houston Baptist got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring a pair of runs to make it 8-2, but DBU responded with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a commanding, 15-3 lead. Behmanesh blasted his first homerun of the year to score both Patriot runs in the fifth, and drove in two of DBU's five runs in the sixth with a two-out double to left field.
Behmanesh's second double of the night and eighth of the season came in the top of the seventh, capping off an impressive performance with his sixth RBI of the game to give DBU a 16-3 lead.
Houston Baptist was only able to add a pair of runs in the eighth and one in the ninth, bringing the score to 16-6, and leaving them in search of their second win of the year.
Game two of the series will be played Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
