Krizan's Four Doubles Lifts Patriots Past No. 9 Texas A&M

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team used a season-high 23 hits to defeat No. 9 Texas A&M, 14-10, in extra innings on Friday night in College Station. The Patriots even the series at 1-1 with the win and improve to 32-14 on the season.

Senior Brandon Williamson threw five and one third innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits, but it was Senior Chris Haney who picked up the win after giving up no earned runs in the final two innings.

Five Patriots had at least three hits in the game, led by Junior Joel Hutter who finished with four hits and four RBI. Senior Jason Krizan, who leads all of NCCA Baseball in doubles this season with 34, added four more doubles in the game that resulted in three RBI.

After three scoreless innings, the Patriots were the first to strike, posting two runs on the board in the top of the fourth. With Junior Ryan Behmanesh on first after reaching on a wild pitch, Hutter's RBI double to center field gave DBU a 1-0 lead. Hutter would eventually score the second run later in the inning, courtesy of a RBI single from Sophomore Austin Elkins.

The Aggies were able to score one in the bottom half of the inning, but DBU increased their lead in the fifth. With two men on, Krizan delivered his first RBI double of the game down the right field line to give the Patriots a 3-1 advantage. Hutter and Sophomore Duncan McAlpine delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cap off the inning, increasing the DBU lead to 5-1.

A double by the Aggies scored two more runs for the home team in the bottom of the fifth, but for the third straight inning, the Patriots had a multiple-run inning in the sixth. Krizan delivered his second double of the game to score the sixth Patriot run, and Hutter picked up his third RBI on a sacrifice fly to close out the inning, giving DBU the 7-3 lead.

The lead didn't last long for the Patriots as A&M scored four in the bottom of sixth to tie the game at seven runs apiece.

Junior Landon Anderson gave the lead back to the Patriots in the top of the seventh with his RBI groundout that scored Elkins. Elkins reached on a leadoff single, and then advanced on a single by Junior Kenny Hatcher, followed by a failed pickoff attempt by the Aggies' Joaquin Hinojosa.

A&M took their first lead of the night in the bottom of the seventh as they posted two runs on two hits. A leadoff triple resulted in the first run of the inning, followed by a RBI single that gave the Aggies a 9-8 advantage.

Krizan led off the eighth with his third double, putting the tying run in scoring position for the Patriots. He eventually tied the game at 9-9 after scoring on Hutter's fourth RBI of the night-a single through the right side.

Krizan's fourth and final double of the game came in the top of the ninth, as he pushed Senior Tyler Robbins across the plate to give DBU a 10-9 lead.

The Aggies managed to stay alive by tying the game once again in the bottom of the ninth, but the Patriots finally put the game away in the tenth. With the bases loaded and only one out, Senior Chris Haney scored the go ahead runs with a two-RBI single, giving DBU a 12-10 lead. Robbins sealed the win two batters later when he delivered a two-RBI single to center field, leaving DBU with the 14-10 win.

The Patriots will close out the three-game series against the Aggies with the final game on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. at Olsen Field.
