Robertson's Big Night Leads Men's Soccer in Home Win

Box Score

DALLAS – It was good to be home for the Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer team, who matched a season best in goals en route to its second win of the season 3-2 over McMurry on Monday night. DBU (2-4) snaps a four game skid and improves to 1-3 verses McMurry (1-4-1) since the move to the Heartland Conference.

The Patriots broke a scoreless tie on a sophomore Christian Lampe header on the left side in the 21st minute for his first goal of his career. Sophomore Brian Robertson delivered the assist.

Robertson was just getting started on his big night, extending the lead with a pair of goals to take the team lead with three overall. The Midlothian, Texas, native broke into the scoring column in DBU's most recent game on Saturday at Eastern New Mexico.

The Midfielder pushed the score to 2-0 off a free kick that beat the goalie left side at the 27:32 mark in the first half. The Patriots led by this score at halftime and outshot the Warhawks 10-6.

DBU carried the momentum early into the second half as Robertson fired a long range shot that snuck into the lower left corner of the net. This occurred at the 55:20 mark and put the Patriots in a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Warhawks unleashed a rally almost five minutes later with Antoine Freitas recording his first goal of the season.

Freshman Mason Stringer, debuting for injured sophomore Chuck Schober, made some critical saves to preserve the lead late in the contest.

David Cato tallied goal number two of the year with less than two minutes remaining to narrow the deficit, but it was as close as McMurry got as time expired.

Men's Soccer Head Coach, Chris Crawford, felt very great about this win. "McMurry has had our number the last few times, and it feels good to win one back at our place."

"It was great to be back home finally with our friends, family, and in front of our University," Coach Crawford announced in regards to playing the team's first six games away.

The Patriots ended up being outshot 20-18, but did break a season-high on attempts with their previous best taking place last match with 17. Schober (2-4) did record the win after working a shutout and one save through 51:50 minutes. Stringer allowed two goals but also grabbed five saves.

Neil O'Sullivan (1-4-1) received the loss allowing three goals and one save in full action in the net.

"We had a lot of positives from tonight's game and we will carry these with us," Coach Crawford reflected. "The team still sees some areas we need to keep working on."

Dallas Baptist gets over a week off before traveling to McMurry in the Heartland Conference Opener on Oct. 5 slated for 12 pm.

"Conference is right around the corner and the best thing is the guys are starting to play their best soccer ever," the second year coach stated.
